About Core Health Insurance

Intended Use

Core Health Insurance provides limited benefits at an affordable price and may be used as primary or supplemental coverage. It is available to all applicants without regard to medical history so this plan is attractive to people with significant pre-existing medical conditions. Four levels of benefits are offered ranging from inexpensive ("Physician Plan") to expensive ("Platinum Plan"). The only difference in the plans is the level of benefits provided and the premium rate.

Primary coverage

Core Health Insurance is not meant to meet the requirements of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and does not prevent a covered individuals from shared responsibility tax penaltiies. Yet not everyone is eligible for coverage under the ACA plans and other either cannot afford or simply do not wish to purchase ACA-qualified coverage. At the higher levels of benefits (the "Gold Plan" and "Platinum Plan") Core Health Insurance is more commonly used as the primary insurance when major medical insurance is not available, not affordable or not desirable due to exclusions or coverage eligibillity gaps.

Supplemental coverage

Core Health Insurance is most often combined with other insurance to increase the overall level of coverage. At the lower level of benefits "Physician Plan" and "Value Plan" this insurance is priced at a level that make it most popular as a supplemental insurance to major medical insurance.

Replacing coverage

Core Health Insurance is not major medical insurance and should not be used to replace major medical insurance. When replacing major medical insurance it is advisable to keep Core Health Insurance as a supplemental coverage. There is no requirement to drop this type of insurance when enrolling in another type of policy.

General Eligibility

All applicants residing in approved states under age 65 are eligible for this coverage. U.S. citizenship is not required. “Child only” policies are not available; dependent children must be covered with an adult on the policy.

This is an association type health plan. The Group Policyholder is The Group and Blanket Accident and Health Insurance Trust. Applicants must join the Association of United Internet Consumers (AUIC.org); this application is included and built-into the insurance application process. The benefits association cost of $2 per month is built into the premium cost that is quoted. There are no other fees or requirements to become or remain a member of the association.

Medical Eligibility

Applicants are eligible without regard to medical history or pre-existing conditions. There are no medical questions on the application and so an applicant cannot be declined for insurance due to medical history.
